As part of a broader organisational restructure, data networking research at Swinburne University of Technology has moved from the Centre for Advanced Internet Architecture (CAIA) to the Internet For Things (I4T) Research Lab.

Although CAIA no longer exists, this website reflects CAIA's activities and outputs between March 2002 and February 2017, and is being maintained as a service to the broader data networking research community.

This page is part of the GENIUS project.

Test Method

The following methods were used to generate and capture traffic:

  1. Setup equipment as detailed per Figure 1.
  2. Figure 1. Setup of Hardware for Xbox traffic generation and capturing.

  3. Start up tcpdump with "tcpdump -n -i fxp0 -w " or pkthisto on the Sniffer Box
  4. Start up Xbox consoles with Halo
  5. Select "Multiplayer" then "System Link"
  6. Begin a multiplayer game and note the following details:

  7. - Server console (no. of players on server)
    - Client console (no. of players on client)
    - Map
    - Game Type
    - Number of Players
  8. Upon completion of the game, discontinue the operation of tcpdump or pkthisto
  9. If tcpdump traffic capture was conducted, then the output file was later passed to pkthisto with the following configuration file. Otherwise if a real-time capture was conducted with pkthisto then a different configuration file was used. Pkthisto was set to capture 2000 packets and then create histograms of inter-arrival times and packet lengths based on the previous 2000 packets.
