As part of a broader organisational restructure, data networking research at Swinburne University of Technology has moved from the Centre for Advanced Internet Architecture (CAIA) to the Internet For Things (I4T) Research Lab.

Although CAIA no longer exists, this website reflects CAIA's activities and outputs between March 2002 and February 2017, and is being maintained as a service to the broader data networking research community.

Netflix-supported PhD scholarship 2014

Swinburne University of Technology and Netflix Inc. are pleased to announce a newly funded full-time PhD position at Swinburne's Centre for Advanced Internet Architectures (CAIA) under the supervision of Professor Grenville Armitage.

Applications are now open until 5pm August 1st 2014 (Melbourne time), with candidature expected to begin by October 2014.

The research program will be focussed on technologies and techniques associated with high performance, IP-based content delivery. Topics of interest include operating system and network stack design, congestion control, transport protocols, algorithms for buffer management, adaptive streaming, and related areas.

Benefits:

The successful applicant will be provided with a tax-free stipend (living allowance) of $32K to $34K AUD per year (up to four years) and a full tuition fee waiver. The successful applicant's project will be supported by additional funds for relevant equipment, journal publications and conference travel. 5. Evidence of English language proficiency (e.g. IELTS or TOEFL scores) if you are not an Australian citizen or permanent resident
  6. Other evidence of a passion for practical data networking research. (No more than five pages with minimum 10 point font.)
Your cover note must confirm your availability to begin candidature by October 2014 if selected. Please attach all necessary documentation as pdf files (attachments in other formats will be ignored).

Deadline:

Applications received by 5pm August 1st 2014 (Melbourne time) will be reviewed and evaluated by representatives of CAIA and Netflix Inc.  Applications received after this time may also be considered if circumstances allow.
